River Rock is stone that has been smoothed by the forces of water and friction so there are no sharp edges. It is often used to give a more natural look to ponds and dry creek beds. These stones are available in several variations including thick wallstone, thin wallstone, steppers, and boulders.
In the thick variation, River Rock covers an average of 35 to 40 square feet per ton when laid flat (mosaic style). Expect a waste factor of 35% to 40% when laid on edge (drystack). Recommended footing width is 10” for Thick River Rock (measuring from the face of the unfinished wall).
Thin River Rock covers approximately 95 to 105 square feet per ton when laid flat (mosaic style) and approximately 20 to 25 square feet per ton when laid on edge (drystack). Recommended footing widths are 6” for mosaic applications and 10” for drystack and semi-stack applications (measuring from the face of the unfinished wall).
